The Pre-op Holding Area (POHA) at Corewell Grosse Pointe is a fast-paced critical care unit that specializes in the preparation of patients who are undergoing a surgical procedure. Staff who join our unit should be teamwork oriented and possess strong critical thinking, organizational, and decision-making skills.

Scope of work

The RN Manager is an experienced leader responsible for managing assigned areas and services and supervising assigned patient care staff to promote the creation of a center of excellence for staff recruitment and retention and clinical and business outcomes. The RN Manager is responsible to ensure safe and effective delivery of patient care and clinical outcomes, compliance with regulatory, administrative, and clinical standards, and policies and procedures. The RN Manager serves as a chief retention and safety officer. He/she ensures that safety and quality standards are upheld by effective use of data and technology to make decisions and proactively mitigates unnecessary risks for his/her area of responsibility. The RN Manager creates and ensures a desirable, safe work environment that enables the organization to meet or exceed its mission and goals. He/she models the way to foster communication and collaboration with physicians, staff, patients, and other departments. Role specific competencies, responsibilities, roles, and functions are based on the Professional Practice Model. This position reports to the Director of Nursing or above.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing Required.
  • Master's Degree in nursing Preferred.
  • Completion of a Nurse Executive Council approved leadership development educational program Preferred.
  • 3 years of relevant experience Required.
  • 2 years demonstrated informal leadership experience required for internal applicants, may include but is not limited to: Charge Lead Nurse, Charge Nurse responsibilities, leadership on behalf of unit/site/system at Shared Governance Council Required.
  • One year of formal nursing leadership experience required for external applicants Required.
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required.
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required.
  • AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Required within 6 months.
