Job Summary - Director, Accounts Payable

The Director, Accounts Payable provides direction and leadership for the Accounts Payable Corewell Health System. The Director, Accounts Payable directs the development, maintenance, and optimization of Accounts Payable processes and its systems. Mentorship and growth of team members, education both within and outside of the department, leading collaborative workgroups to tackle challenges, and accountability of department performance metrics are vital to this role. The position requires a leader that interacts daily with multiple departments throughout the health system to foster partnership and efficiencies.

Essential Functions - Director, Accounts Payable
  • Oversees the development and refinement of the Accounts Payable (AP) department and its related systems. Including the assessment and potential implementation of new market trends/technology such as robotic automation, OCR read enhancements, etc. Ensure that the accounts payable function of Corewell Health System is as accurate and precise as possible.
  • Accountability of key performance metrics, including creation of work centers and dashboards for ease of reporting and line of sight visibility. Identification and creation of reports to provide upstream/downstream data analytics.
  • Compliance development and adherence. Lead on internal and external audit interactions.
  • Collaborate with Corewell Health leadership in interdisciplinary work focused on process improvement initiatives across the health system. Uses data/expertise from internal and external sources to help decision making and guide creation of viable sustainable solutions and associated metrics/monitoring.
  • Provides leadership on business issues such as physician/referral source payments, match exceptions, supplier accountability, etc. Develops solutions to complex problems, which require a high degree of ingenuity, creativity, and innovation. Identifies and interprets patterns in datasets to locate influences, education or improvement opportunities. Creates specifications for reports and analysis based on business needs and required or available data elements. Oversees datasets and reports for analysis using system reporting tools, as well as create system reports, queries and dashboards.
  • Directs efforts of AP Management and team. Provides direction and leadership to the activities of professional and support staff to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. Selects, trains, develops, and evaluates subordinates and initiates personnel actions in accordance with departmental policies and organization philosophy. Mentor direct reports as well as those in the health system striving for a leadership role.
  • Coordinates the processing/auditing of the Accounts Payable department. Including, but not limited to, invoice processing, statement review, disbursements, void processing, banking, 1099 processing, escheatment, recovery audits, expense report reimbursement etc. Oversight and optimization of payment programs, driving automation of payments and rebate revenue.
  • Routinely interacts with Corewell Health leadership throughout the health system. Participates in Supply Chain Monthly Operating Review.
  • Education creation and presentation, including development/maintenance of AP intranet site.

Qualifications - Director, Accounts Payable
  • Required Bachelor's Degree Business, Finance or other related field of study.
  • Preferred Master's Degree or post graduate business certification (CPA, MBA, etc.).
  • 7 years of relevant experience Seven (7) years of progressive responsibility within Accounts Payable (AP) or related area. A minimum of three (3) years in a management leadership role.
  • Experience in a healthcare system desirable. Manages various business and financial functions, providing strong leadership to directly reporting staff, development of policies, procedures, key performance indicates and related reporting. Required
