Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking an Architectural Designer to join our team in Grand Rapids, MI!


Our team of talented and creative architects work closely as trusted partners with our clients throughout the design process to realize a jointly conceived vision. We offer a full range of services from preliminary planning and feasibility studies through final design and construction inspection for both full build-out, renovations and adaptive reuse projects. Our markets include commercial development, warehousing, pre K-12 and higher education, science and technology, municipal and public works agencies, offices and corporate facilities, and retail and food.


Responsibilities

  • Participate in design development under the direction of a more senior architect, coordinating with engineering and client as requested, to meet the scope of the project.
  • Assist in the creation of a specification package that covers every aspect of construction and materials used.
  • Assist in verifying all design aspects comply with local code jurisdiction and work independently to apply code provisions and design procedures.
  • Assist in the creation of drawing sets, print, and review for errors/quality assurance/quality control to ensure no outstanding issues before submitting to Project Manager for more detailed verification; correct drawings per Project Manager redlines.
  • Adhere to multiple review sets and final release deadlines for client; support revision bulletins from field after project release.
  • Coordinate with in-house or outside consultants on engineering for electrical, plumbing, mechanical, etc.
  • Keep logs of submittals in project file folders.
  • Assist in development of project proposals and client presentations and attend client meetings.
  • Perform field inspections, measurements or calculations and document same if needed.
  • Attend client meetings to learn scope of project.
  • Evaluate, select and apply standard architectural techniques and procedures as well as knowledge of building codes and regulations to create designs/drawings, while using judgment to make minor adaptations and modifications to existing designs.
  • Perform work on complex components or sub-systems and related elements using advanced analysis and design methods.
  • Perform site visits, field inspections, measurements, or calculations and document.
  • Assist in development of proposals, writing specifications for contractors and research related to material qualities, feasibility, restrictions, etc.
  • Coordinate with manufacturers, contractors, and in-house or outside consultants. Respond to requests for submittal-specification review and requests for information.
  • Assist in the development of client presentations; may participate in actual presentation, if requested
  • May assist in budgeting.
  • Establish & maintain positive relationships with co-workers, support and build others on the team and across disciplines/offices.
  • Be responsive to others and share information to improve efficiency and help others achieve goals; listen and engage in productive and critical debate.
  • Suggest new ideas and processes; stay informed of developments in practice areas; view obstacles as opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture from an accredited university is required.
  • Basic to intermediate AutoCAD and Revit skills are required; InDesign and SketchUp operational skill level is preferred.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in different phases at the same time and meet the associated project deadlines.
  • Ability to research code provisions, products, material information, etc.
  • Ability to coordinate information exchange between clients, project manager, and project team.
