Job Description

Sets-up and operates all machinery within the shoe department, including all fabrication equipment, plating and piston/shoe assembly equipment if the cell is expanded to include those operations. It is understood that in a working department, the specific machines and equipment are subject to change, as well as individual machines/equipment may be added or removed. Operates two or multiple machines simultaneously, when possible, and operators will be performing cross-training functions as well.

Works with a minimum amount of supervision.

Works from blueprints, process sheets, inspection plans, customer, company or military specifications and/or instructions from supervision.

Maintain traveler package, generate traceable paperwork, complete and maintain appropriate quality records, and to physically move product within the department.

Perform all certified operator inspection requirements. A general knowledge of SPC (control charts) and their application is necessary.

Sets-up (when required) and operates all machines, making all necessary adjustments to machines or tools as required.

Improvises or adapts available equipment to produce parts to blueprint and process dimensions and specifications.

Receives, inspects, and stores within the cell all raw material and supplies required for shoe fabrication, and eventually shoe plating and piston/shoe assembly when/if the cell is expanded to include those operations.

Receives, stores, and manages finished shoes and pistons in a point-of-use storage approach within the assembly area of the cell. Interfaces with Met Lab and quality control to review and maintain material and OPR certifications.

Maintains in good working order all necessary tooling, fixturing, and related accessories to support production requirements of the machines in the department, be proficient with MP2 Datastream and the TPM program.

Must have a good knowledge of and ability to apply shop mathematics.

Responsible for maintaining calibrated gages.

Helps to train/instruct other employees as required.

Productivity shall be equal to or above established standards and shall conform to prescribed quality.

Exercises good judgment and care in handling of all tools, gages, and parts that are in process.

Proactively keeps their machines and work areas clean and in good order.

Participates in "continuous improvement" efforts within the classification/department.

Qualifications

Experience with CNC machining strongly preferred

Must be willing to accept constructive feedback and suggestions from
supervision.

Must have above-average initiative and must cooperate with his/her supervisor and service departments to bring about quality and quantity of production.

Must have a good knowledge of and ability to apply shop mathematics.

Must be able to properly interpret complex blueprints, process sheets, company, customer and/or military specifications and apply such interpretations to his/her job.

Must have a thorough knowledge of and ability to use all precision gaging required on the job.

Must be willing to learn or obtain new skills through cross-training or specific training sessions.

Must have basic computer skills and be able to use software associated with job function.
