The University of Notre Dame () is accepting applications for a Assistant Director for Diversity Education and Outreach.

The Assistant Director for Diversity Education and Outreach (ADDEO) will orchestrate educational initiatives and workshops focusing on diversity and inclusion for the University Notre Dame students. The ADDEO will also lead all outreach to internal and external campus partners, such as the coordination of all tabling events that request MSPS' presence. To fulfill these two charges the ADDEO will be responsible for the recruitment, hiring, and management of the MSPS Senior Fellows. The ADDEO will work with the MSPS senior fellows to create student programming that welcomes the campus community into the Center for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

The ADDEO must bring specialized knowledge in the field of diversity education in order to support underrepresented students in a multitude of areas including, but not limited to personal, spiritual, and leadership development. The ADDEO will have substantial experience working in this area and be a credible advisor for underrepresented students. In order to support the holistic development of the students who participate in MSPS and the Center for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs and services, the ADDEO will also support office initiatives coordinated by other team members.

This position reports to the Director of Multicultural Student Programs and Services (MSPS). The Assistant Director is a full time 12 month position with various evening and weekend responsibilities throughout the academic year, as well as some limited evening and weekend responsibilities throughout the summer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the development, review, and updating of any training materials and resources.
  • Reviews and interprets student survey responses and applicable campus specific data in order to update and inform content for workshop and training materials.
  • Oversee the training and scheduling of the MSPS Senior Fellows who will assist the ADDEO in leading and facilitating workshops..
  • Networking and partnering with student groups and campus partners to promote workshop and training facilitation opportunities.
  • Recruit, hire, and lead the MSPS senior fellows to facilitate educational workshops and table events that request the presence of MSPS.
  • Lead MSPS staff in organizing and delineating senior fellow staff positions and organizing annual goals for these student employees. Work with the Division of Student Affair in annual planning for senior fellow positions.
  • Work with senior fellows to design programming aimed at increasing belonging and building community in the Center for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Coordinate all internal and external outreach, marketing, and tabling events to promote the mission, work, and visibility of MSPS across campus.
  • Manage the MSPS vending machine and all budgeted operations related to it.
  • Responsible for researching and engaging with students to identify products that will best serve the campus needs.
  • Taking the lead on building relationships and working with various vendors to ensure products are stocked and purchased as needed.
  • Participate as integral member of the DEI team interacting daily with colleagues in the Gender Relations Center and the Office of Student Enrichment; Participate as an integral member of a large, multifaceted Student Development team interacting daily with colleagues in the Student Activities Office, Multicultural Student Programs and Services, Office of Student Enrichment, Office of Community Standards, RecSports, University Bands, Family Resource Center and student media groups; Regularly collaborate with other departments within the Division of Student Affairs.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Candidates must possess a Master's degree, preferably in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Qualifications include 3+ years working with university students from culturally diverse backgrounds; experience with large-scale programming around the area of diversity; ability to work collaboratively in higher education with faculty, staff, and students at all levels; strong organizational skills with attention to detail; effective interpersonal skills including a willingness to create a challenging but welcoming environment for all people; intermediate knowledge of current trends in the Asian, African American, Latino and Native American communities, and current events and issues impacting these populations is helpful; and strong background in race and ethnic issues with anti-racism training.
  • The successful candidate will also possess a commitment to formulating formational opportunities, consistent with the mission of a Catholic University founded by the Congregation of Holy Cross.
