Job Description

Currently seeking a Lighting Product Development Engineer to join our highly collaborative, Product Engineering team. This position is responsible for the engineering and development of new lighting products and product improvements. This person must be skilled at understanding design requirements and be able to propose product solutions and schedules. The most successful candidates will be highly motivated servant leaders who can manage projects, effectively communicate with designers, management, team members and production staff.

This is a hybrid position, allowing you to work from home and in the office, you may be required to work in noisy or hot environment and around moving machinery.

How You Contribute:

  1. Collaborate with internal and external team members during all phases of product development to develop creative and robust lighting
  2. Working individually and as a team, engineer and model potential product solutions in CAD.
    • Use computer simulation (Photopia and AGi32) to validate solutions.
    • Use computer software (CircuitStudio) to design LED array and other components as needed.
  3. Integrate issues of design, function, materials, durability, and manufacturing with cost effective
    • Component and material selection and compatibility (LED, lens/optic, drivers, harness, connectors, gasket materials)
  4. Uphold design and performance criteria with validation and testing of proposed solutions and products.
    • Understand UL, photometric, safety, vibration, and IP testing processes.
    • Use physical prototypes to measure temperature, predict LED output and luminaire life.
    • Use measured and simulated data to achieve light distribution goals.
  5. Stay abreast of current technology and competition related to materials, manufacturing technologies, control devices, etc.
  6. Maintain accurate documentation and records in accordance with in-house engineering procedures. Including FMEA, tolerance stack ups, use of the PDL, test log and others.
  7. Participate in budget creation, tracking and spending by project assignments.
  8. Participate in the creation of prototypes with design and the model shop.
  9. Investigate and solve warranty issues. Occasional travel could be required for unique or difficult warranties.
  10. Support the Sales Support team with lighting knowledge as needed.
  11. Maintain relationships with suppliers and approved testing facilities.

Criteria for Success:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, plus 3-5 years related experience is preferred.
  • Must be able to analyze data from many variables and apply engineering calculations to design structural solutions.
  • Must be proficient in SolidWorks, Microsoft office, blueprint reading, and project management.
  • Experience in metal fabrication, cellular manufacturing, and the properties of material used in site furniture such as steel, aluminum, wood, and plastics is a plus.
  • Display a history of servant leadership with an emphasis on achievements, problem solving and providing great service.
  • Desire to learn and innovate and be willing to accept responsibility.
  • Must be able to work as a member of a team, use common sense and build a network of relationships with a positive attitude.
