Job Summary

Week 1: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Week 2: Sunday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Provide concise and accurate oral interpretations for spoken languages for Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients, their families, and Corewell Health employees in-person, over-the-phone, and via videoconferencing throughout the hospital and clinics.

Essential Functions

  • Ability to interpret source target language in a variety of health care settings. From surgical and medical procedures; transplant teaching, discharge instructions, consent forms and hospital policies to patients and their families in conjunction with medical and nursing staff.

  • Provides interpreting and translation services in accordance with Corewell Health policies and procedures and the National Council on Interpreters In Health Care (NCIHC) Code of Ethics governing the profession of interpretation.

  • Maintains assignment log current for documentation purposes.

  • Assists with the on-boarding process of new staff as well as providing shadowing opportunities for people interested in profession, etc.

  • Assist with dispatching interpreter requests during weekend and off hours.

  • Maintains certification current by keeping up with continuing education credits and adhering to certification renewal deadlines.

  • Ability to interpret over-the-phone or via video for long periods of time. Ability to walk extensively throughout the workday.

  • Ability to communicate effectively throughout the workday with Language Services schedulers. Demonstrated ability to interact with people in a sensitive, tactful, patient and discrete manner.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 1 year of relevant experience providing interpreting services

  • 40 hour Interpreter Training

  • CRT-Healthcare Interpreter, Certified (CHI) - CCHI Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters, within 180 days after hire, Or

  • CRT-National Interpreter Certification (NIC) - RID Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf within 180 days after hire

PREFERRED

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent

  • 1 year of relevant experience in a health care setting

  • LIC-Driver's License - State of Michigan

  • CRT-Auto Insurance
